Budget Talks

P.A. council continuing budget talks this week

Nov 29, 2021 | 3:00 PM

Budget talks are continuing this week for the City of Prince Albert.

Council is expected to meet from Wednesday to Friday where they’ll consider the proposed sanitation, landfill, utility, and airport budgets.

Council previously met for four days over a week ago where they discussed the operating and capital budgets for city departments and community groups.

Up for debate this week includes a three per cent increase to water and sewer rates for each of the next three years, potential increasing fees at the landfill and Prince Albert airport, and funding a potable water delivery system to help residents who fall under a water advisory.

They’re also set to discuss cancelling the septic rebate program, originally brought up during the 2021 budget talks.

The rebate is currently being received by 185 properties in Prince Albert, all but six of which are north of the river, at an average annual value of roughly $485 each per year.

Meanwhile, each of the upcoming meetings is slated to start at 4:00 p.m. with the public needing to wear a mask and provide proof of vaccination if they plan to watch in person.

The overall budget is expected to be officially approved at the Dec. 13 council meeting.
