Happiness and heartbreak as boys volleyball teams compete at regionals

With high school volleyball winding down in the province, boys regionals action this past weekend decided who is going to provincials.

In 1A action in Glaslyn, Paradise Hill, Goodsoil, Medsted, Annaheim and Muenster would battle it out for a chance at provincials. It would be local schools facing off in the playoffs as Muenster and Annaheim, communities only 20 minutes away from each other, battled it out for the regional championship.

In the end Muenster took Annaheim in a 2-1 match for the championship.

Host team Glaslyn would also face a familiar foe for third place as Medsted took the win in a 2-0 match.

In 2A action, Wilke took the regional championship after facing off at Cornerstone Christian School in Moose Jaw. They beat out the host team in 2-0 match to take the title and the trip to provincials.

Maidstone, Pinehouse, St. Walburg, Birch Hills and Pierceland also competed in Meath Park for the 2A regional title. In the end, it would St. Walburg bringing home the hardware with a 2-1 match against Maidstone.

Host team Unity won their own trip to provincials this past weekend in 3A action. They took the final match 2-1 over Shaunavon.

It was a northeast show in Melfort over the weekend in 4A action with Humboldt, Tisdale and Nipawin coming to the party. In the end, hometown Melfort would dominate with a 3-0 record followed by Humboldt with two wins and one loss. There was no bracket for the playoff and winner was determined by the round robin.

In further 4A action at E.D. Feehan in Saskatoon, North Battlefords’ John Paul II, La Loche and Meadow Lake competed for the title.

Meadow Lake would go undefeated in both the round robin and the playoff bracket to take the regional title. JPII would come in second place.

Provincial draws will be made available on Nov. 22 by the Saskatchewan High School Athletics Association.
