MELFORT, Sask. — An outspoken advocate and researcher of innovations and agriculture is the Farm & Food Care Champion for 2021.

Dr. Stuart Smyth is an associate professor in the Department of Agriculture and Resource Economics at the University of Saskatchewan who has been recognized for correcting misinformation on social media.

He said sometimes the conversations get heated.

“I’ve been sworn at and I think I have had one or two death threats in the last three or four years,” Smyth said. “I treat that as a good thing because I know I’ve upset their propoganda. The public can see the fact that someone is spreading misinformation and they’re being called out.”

A special honourable mention went to Mady Adamson, a grade four student from Kindersley, Sask. She helps engage consumers by showing what happens on the family farm.

Adamson has made over 50 short videos on Twitter under the title of “Learning About Ag With Mady”.
