Another Victory for Prince Albert Sharks Swim Club

Twenty swimmers from the Prince Albert Sharks Swim Club participated in the Saskatoon GoldFins invitational short course swim meet Nov. 12-14.

Sharks swimmers achieved fantastic results in the competition held in Saskatoon, including a huge number of personal best times achieved. In fact, a club record was broken for the 200-metre butterfly for 11-12 year old girls. The record had stood for 23 years.

In addition, three Sharks swimmers achieved “AA” times and qualified to the Manitoba-Saskatchewan swimming championship, which will be held in Winnipeg in March 2022. The results show a massive development in the performance level of Shark swimmers competing against other top swimmers from different clubs and provinces. Ava. H, Clara.G, and Myla.M achieved “AA” times for the first time during this season and increasing the size of the Sharks team for Man-Sask in March to seven swimmers.

Here are highlights from the swim meet:
Myla M. outclassed the field in her individual events and smashed the club record in the 200-metre butterfly. She also came second in the100- and 200-metres butterfly events and third in 100- and 800-metre freestyle. She achieved an “AA” time in the 50-metre freestyle and qualified for the provincial swimming championship.

Camryn Cooling place first in 800- and 1500-metre freestyle. She also achieved an “AA” time in the1500-metre free style.

Sophie Bilodeau had personal best times in the 50- and 100-metre backstroke.

Clara Gelhorn achieved her first “AA” time this season in the 1500-metre freestyle and placed second in this race. She had personal best times in all her races.

Ava Helgason achieved an “AA” time for the first time ever and qualified to the provincial swimming championship. She had personal times in all her races and qualified to the finals in the 50-metre freestyle, 50-metre backstroke, 50-metre butterfly and 100-metre backstroke.

Mackenzie Emery placed fifth in the 200-metre individual medley, sixth in the 200-metre freestyle and eighth in the 200-metre freestyle.

Natasha Coertze achieved “A” times for all of her events. She also had personal best times for all her races and qualified for the finals in the 50-, 100- and 200-metre freestyle and 50- and 100-metre backstroke.

Abigail Anderson-Woodsworth qualified to the finals in the 50- and 100-metre backstroke. She had personal best times in all her races.

Dani Boisson qualified for the finals in 100-metre freestyle and 100-metre individual medley.

Patience Soderberg-Tilden swam personal best times in all her races and qualified for the finals in the 50-metre freestyle, 50-metre butterfly and 100-metre individual medley.

Isla Hansen achieved “A” times in 50-, 100- and 2000-metre backstroke. She swam personal best times in all her races.

Gillian Hufnagel had personal best times in all her races. She qualified for the finals in the 50-metre backstroke, 50-metre freestyle, 100-metre freestyle and 50-metre butterfly.

Luthar Wiberg came sixth in 200-metre backstroke and eighth in the 100-metre backstroke. He swam personal best times in the 100- and 200-metre freestyle.

Jenna Pshebnicki qualified to the finals in 50-metre butterfly and had personal best times in all her races.

Sophie MacDonald qualified to the finals in 50-metre breaststroke.

Avery MacDonald had new personal best times.

Selena Markos swam personal best times in all her races.

Hillary Walter had new personal best times.

Chad Piluk, a masters swimmer, came sixth in the 400-metre freestyle.

Head coach, Dr. Hazem Hussein said, “The meet was a huge success for all our swimmers,” said head coach Dr. Hazem Hussein, “absolutely shredding their best personal times and achieving 3 “AA” times and more than 20 “A” times. Last but not least, a big shout out to Miss Ava. She just narrowly missed Western Canada championship qualifying time… look out for Ava in the future swim meet.”

The club is pleased with the swimmers results and performance. The Prince Albert Sharks offer a variety of programs to meet the kid’s potentials and ambitions not only on the competitive level but also on the non- competitive level. Prince Albert Sharks swim club accepts year-round registration.
