Former Prince Albert Raider Josh Morrissey makes a die-hard fan’s dream come true

A dream came true for a young Prince Albert Raiders fan after former Raider and current Winnipeg Jets defenceman Josh Morrissey’s generous gesture made 12-year-old Lucas Adams’ first NHL game memorable.

Amanda Adams and her son Lucas have been die hard Raiders fans their whole life. Amanda has cheered on the team since she was a little girl as they’ve had season tickets and her son was born on opening night of a Raiders season.

She explained from a young age Lucas never took to any Raiders players until he met Morrissey nine years ago when Lucas was part of the Read with the Raiders Club.

“We’d go to different events and Josh would always find Lucas and Lucas would always find Josh and they would partner up,” she said adding it’s been seven years since they’ve seen each other. “Even to this day he’s the only Raider that Lucas just like has always admired so much.”

When Morrissey got drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in 2013 Lucas instantly became a fan of the team. It was always a plan for Amanda and Lucas to go to a Jets game but never got around to it until last Saturday when the Jets took on the Los Angeles Kings at home.

As a shot in the dark, Amanda sent Morrissey an Instagram message saying her son was a big fan and has followed his career. She also sent a picture of the two of them together when he played for the Raiders. To her surprise Morrissey messaged back saying he remembers Lucas and that if they came to the glass during warmups, he would talk to them and give him a puck.

“We drove to Winnipeg in really bad weather. We did not turn around, it took us 12 and a half hours,” she said. “And he came to the glass, and he met up with him and he threw pucks and he kept throwing more pucks because all the other kids kept running and coming. He just made it such a good experience and the next day when we left, he messaged us and just said ‘I hope you got the puck. I kept throwing more because I wasn’t sure if he got one and by the way tell him that I loved his sign.’”

Amanda said the experience was a dream come true for Lucas as he has always wanted to see Morrissey play at the NHL level.

“To be an NHL player, we view him as kind of you know he’s made it. He’s a big deal, and he was so humble. He responded to our messages, and he reached out even more than I would have expected him to. I just found him to be extremely humble and he didn’t have to do it, but he went out of his way to make it a special experience for my son.”
