Nov 15, 2021 | 12:10 PM

Less than five hours after walking away from the minimum security unit at Saskatchewan Penitentiary, a man serving a three year sentence for manslaughter was found and arrested.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Duran Laplante was apprehended by the Prince Albert City Police.

He was initially found unaccounted for at 10:00 p.m. Saturday night, following an evening count at the prison.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) immediately contacted the Prince Albert RCMP detachment and a warrant for his arrest had been issued. According to a statement from the CSC, they are now conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system,” the statement said.
