Man accused of arson and attempted murder, denied bail

Nov 9, 2021 | 2:00 PM

The man charged after a house fire last August at Montreal Lake Cree Nation, has been denied bail.

Scott Bird, 55, appeared by video Tuesday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court.

In connection to the incident that happened in the early morning hours of Aug. 2, Bird has been charged with uttering threats, attempted murder, and arson.

RCMP previously indicated three people were inside a home that was deliberately set on fire. Fortunately no one was hurt, but the house was extensively damaged.

The evidence heard during Tuesday’s bail hearing, and the reason why the judge denied bail, are under a publication ban.

Bird has been in custody since the incident, and is scheduled to make his next court appearance in Montreal Lake on Dec. 2.
