Vandals target Prince Albert Royal Legion branch

Nov 5, 2021 | 11:55 AM

Members of the Prince Albert branch of the Royal Canadian Legion woke up to an unfortunate surprise last night.

Colin Riese, Poppy and Wreath Committee Chair for the Legion, told paNOW the front door of the building, which is made of glass was smashed after midnight. Fortunately, Riese said that appeared to be the extent of the damage and nothing was stolen from the building.

“By the time we got here, Brenda the secretary was here and so was a fellow from the commissionaires,” Riese said. “He had done a preliminary walk through and there was nothing really that he could see, didn’t look like anybody was actually in our building. It really only got as far as breaking the glass on the door. They couldn’t get any farther.”

“Nothing was stolen, just an act of vandalism and unfortunate.”

Riese said it’s an especially upsetting act since Remembrance Day is just around the corner.

“It’s disheartening anytime really, you know to have somebody vandalize your organization, your business it’s just unfortunate but it seems to be getting worse and worse,” Riese added.

The Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) confirmed they were called to the Legion at approximately 1:15 a.m.

Riese said officers did a sweep of the building with their canine unit and secured the branch before leaving.

“That was fantastic, I very much appreciate the members of the police service coming out and helping us out,” he said.

The incident is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact PAPS.
