Canada Post investigating mailbox vandalism complaints

Oct 30, 2021 | 9:00 AM

With the Christmas card season just around the corner, Prince Albert residents are being encouraged to be extra vigilant, and to check their mail regularly, following a number of vandalism related incidents to community mailbox sites over the past months.

According to a statement from Canada Post, they take these matters and the security of the mail very seriously.

“As these incidents are being investigated, it would be inappropriate to comment further or provide details,” the statement said.

When asked what was being discussed in response to the incidents, Canada Post explained they cannot divulge specific security measures, as doing so would significantly hamper their effectiveness.

“When these types of incidents occur, we advise customers where they can temporarily pick up their mail and we begin to repair the site or replace it with newer units as soon as possible,” they said.

Customers who believe they have not received a specific piece of mail are encouraged to contact the sender, who may initiate a claim with Canada Post Customer Service. Customers concerned about identity fraud should contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.

“We encourage anyone who witnesses any suspicious activity to immediately inform the authorities and Canada Post Customer Service.”

A spokesperson for the Prince Albert Police Service confirmed they’ve had a couple reports involving possible mischief to mailboxes, but none in recent days.
