Prince Albert Chamber names new CEO

Oct 29, 2021 | 11:22 AM

The Prince Albert and District Chamber of Commerce has announced the appointment of its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Patty Hughes has diverse experience in business, marketing, event management and community development; with her most recent position being Business Development Officer for Transwest Air. She told paNOW she was very excited about her new role.

“I just felt that I had a real good background of experience that would be a benefit to the chamber and to the business community,” she said.

Reflecting back on the past year and the impact the pandemic has had on the overall business community, Hughes acknowledged there have been challenges.

“Our businesses have pivoted, our community has pivoted to adjust and I am absolutely excited to work with the members,” she said.

With respect to specific goals going forward, Hughes said she wants to help build a strong bridge between the chamber and both the provincial and federal levels of government. Noting a recent opportunity she had to attend the throne speech in Regina, Hughes said the state of the forestry industry and the possibilities for Prince Albert were included.

“I think that’s going to be one of the first things I look at, building those relationships [with the forestry industry] and make sure the chamber is a strong voice for them as well,” she said.

In a statement, Phil Hounjet, interim Board Chair of the Chamber, agreed Hughes’ extensive knowledge of business and government relations perfectly fit the mandate of the Chamber.

“Patty’s extensive background, professional development and community involvement will contribute towards elevating the Chamber in Prince Albert,” he said.

“She will be a strong advocate for the business community and we believe her skills and strong leadership will help build on the great work of the Chamber of Commerce.”

Hughes starts her position on Nov. 4.
