MELFORT, Sask. – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau began his third mandate by making significant changes to his cabinet.

Marie-Claude Bibeau will remain the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.

The Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA) congratulated Bibeau on her re-appointment.

CFA President Mary Robinson said she looks forward to continuing a productive relationship with Bibeau.

“We have worked closely with the Minister throughout her tenure and the COVID-19 pandemic,” Robinson said in a media release. “We are now looking forward to collaborating to ensure that Canadian agriculture can serve as a powerful economic engine for Canada’s recovery and an impactful ally in the fight against climate change.”

Robinson said another key priority that needs to be addressed is the devastating drought on the prairie provinces.

“CFA’s Hay West initiative is seeking funding, in line with competing nations’ emergency funding, to cover the freight costs of shipping hay to farmers who are in dire need today,” she said.

Robinson said CFA will seek a meeting with Minister Bibeau at her earliest convenience.

G3 Canada is supporting Albertans in need with a major donation to food banks across the province.

Food Banks Alberta will receive $25,000 to support 104-member agencies.

Due to the pandemic, G3 has been unable to hold grand opening events for its six Alberta grain elevators which opened in 2020 and 2021. It was decided to donate the funds set aside for those events to charity, including the donation to Food Banks Alberta.

Food Banks Alberta Interim Chief Executive Officer Arianna Scott said the organization appreciates the support.

“It’s because of the generosity of donors like G3 we can continue the work and be there for our members across Alberta. For this, we thank you and greatly appreciate your support,” Scott said.

G3 has six high efficiency grain elevators in Alberta at Morinville, Carmangay, Wetaskiwin, Stettler County, Irricana and Vermilion, and recently announced plans to build another at Rycroft.
