The Prince Albert Northern Bears will wish they get to play at home more often.

The Bears picked up their first win of the Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League season with a 3-1 win over the Battlefords Sharks, Thursday at the Art Hauser Centre. The Bears are now 1-4 on the season, with all four defeats coming on the road to start the year.

Julia Cey scored on the power play in the second period, circling towards goal on the left faceoff dot and sneaking in her rebound, 3:21 into the second period. Brooklyn Siemens tied the game on a sharp angle, one that fooled Bears goaltender Brooke Archer and went off her glove, stick, and into the back of the net late in the frame.

Calla Kampen scored the go-ahead goal from the Bears on a power play 7:12 into the third period. From the right point, Kelsey Ledoux’s seeing-eye pass was able to find Kampen camping out on the left side of the crease for a clutch tip-in.

Then at the 16-minute mark of the third period, Sophia Zuck kept it on a clear 2-on-1 rush and scored on the low-blocker side on Sharks’ goaltender Emma Backman.

The Bears will be back on the road with a pair of games in Swift Current against the Wildcats Saturday and Sunday. They will return to the Art Hauser Centre on Oct. 30 for a contest against the Weyburn Gold Wings.
