Confusion around when and where rapid COVID tests will be available in P.A.

There’s a lot of confusion in Prince Albert when it comes to rapid COVID-19 testing kits.

The provincial government announced last week they would be sending out over 1.3 million kits to different chambers of commerce, fire halls, schools, First Nations, and more so the public could have an easy and quick way to see if they contracted the virus.

The P.A. chamber confirmed to paNOW they are taking part in the program but have received no kits.

They also don’t know when they’ll get them or how many they’re set to receive.

Once they receive them, they plan on letting the public know. Until then, they ask that anyone who plans on visiting their office to ask about the kits to hold off for now.

According to the Saskatchewan government’s website, they plan on sending out the kits sometime this week. The exact date for P.A. is currently unknown.

paNOW reached out to the province’s ministry of health but did not receive a response in time.

Meanwhile, the P.A. Fire Department is continuing to look into whether they’ll be a part of the program.

They state they’ve reached out multiple times to the province but have yet to hear back.

The City of Regina announced on Tuesday their fire halls will not be providing these kits as they’ve remained closed to the public since the start of the pandemic and have no plans to change that at this time.
