MELFORT, Sask. – Team Alberta is continuing to press the provincial government to acknowledge the worst drought and extreme heat conditions that farmers have faced in two decades.

The organization that speaks for barley, canola, pulse, and wheat commissions said it has been monitoring the situation since before indications that crop failures would be imminent and has been meeting regularly with the government to alert them of the severity.

Despite the livestock sector seeing a $340 million AgriRecovery initiative for feed assistance, the groups have not received a formal response and have been told there will be no program changes for the 2021-22 crop.

Team Alberta has been pressing for the government to implement solutions to ensure crop farmers can remain competitive.

CNH Industrial temporarily shut down some of its European factories due to supply disruptions.

The company said ongoing disruptions to the procurement environment and shortages of core components, especially semiconductors was the reason behind the decision.

Several agricultural, commercial vehicle and powertrain manufacturing facilities will be closed for no longer than eight working days this month.

The company’s brands include Case IH, Steyer, New Holland and Iveco.

Deere & Co workers are on strike at 14 facilities across the United States.

The 10,000 members of the United Auto Workers (UAW) rejected a six-year labor contract, according to Reuters.

Deere & Co and the union had reached an agreement but 90 per cent of the union’s workers voted against the deal.

The tentative deal covered production and maintenance employees.

Deere said its operations in Canada and the United States will continue as normal.
