Province reports 271 new cases and two deaths; 3,410 new cases in the past week

As of Oct. 12, the provincial government is reporting 271 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 72,730 reported cases.

Of these new cases, 212 were reported as unvaccinated and 66 are under the age of 11.

Two new deaths were reported Tuesday bringing the total to 753 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 who have died with a case fatality rate of 1.0 per cent.

Of the new cases reported, 102 were found in Northern Saskatchewan zones: Far North West (nine), Far North East (19), North West (35), North Central (30), and North East (nine).

There are currently 4,450 active cases and 67,527 total cases that are considered recovered.

Nearly one quarter (24.4 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39 as well as 24.4 per cent of new cases in the 0-11 age category.

About one in five (20.5 per cent) new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and older) were fully vaccinated.

As of Oct. 12, a total of 348 individuals are hospitalized; including 268 inpatient hospitalizations and 80 in the ICU. Of the 348 patients, 261 (75 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

COVID-19 Summary for October 12, 2021:

From Oct. 6–12, 27,373 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were given in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of vaccines administered in the province to 1,604,075.

As of Oct. 12, 83 per cent of those 12+ have received their first dose and 74 per cent of those 12+ are fully vaccinated.

There were 3,410 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan from Oct. 6–12, bringing the provincial total to 72,730 cases with 3,307 recoveries were recorded during the same period.

The province also reported 27 new deaths were from Oct. 6–12.

There were 384 new lineage results for the same timeframe.

NITHA numbers

There are 29 new cases to report in NITHA communities; 35 (74 per cent) were unvaccinated, four (14 per cent) are partially vaccinated and four (14 per cent) were fully vaccinated.

There are 269 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are found in the Far North Central (Athabasca), five; Far North West, 54; Far North East, 140; North Central, 61; and North East, nine; 6109 cases (95 per cent) have recovered, and eight people are being hospitalized.

Athabasca Health Authority

There was no new update from the Athabasca Health Authority as of Oct. 12.
