Man dies while in police custody in Prince Albert

A 35-year-old man has died just days after he was arrested by Prince Albert police.

The Prince Albert Police Service said the man was arrested on Oct. 8 on multiple outstanding warrants. He was taken to the Prince Albert Police Service detention area until his first court appearance which was scheduled for Tuesday.

On Monday, just after 7:00 p.m., the man was found unresponsive in his cell and taken to Victoria Hospital, where he later died.

RCMP has now been asked to oversee the investigation.
