MELFORT, Sask. — Walmart Canada has made a significant commitment to purchase beef sourced from sustainable operations.

The company said 1.5 million pounds of beef will be sourced from CRSB Certified Sustainable Farms over the next calendar year.

CRSB chair and rancher Anne Wasko said it is a milestone moment.

“Leadership from organizations like Walmart inspires change and supports the Canadian beef sector’s continuous improvement goals,” Wasko said “The CRSB is honoured to partner with Walmart Canada on this ambitious commitment on its journey towards a more sustainable future.”

Walmart Canada said committing to sustainable sourcing at this unprecedented level sets a new threshold in the industry for what is possible and reaffirms the company’s partnership with the CRSB.

Dow has announced plans to build the world’s first net-zero carbon emissions ethylene and derivatives complex.

The project would more than triple Dow’s ethylene and polyethylene capacity from its Fort Saskatchewan, Alta. plant while retrofitting the site to net-zero carbon emissions. This will increase Dow’s capacity of advantaged ethylene, polyethylene and derivatives manufactured across Alberta.

The products made on site will be used around the world to help deliver low- to zero-carbon emissions solutions to meet customers’ sustainability needs.

Alberta Premier Jason Kenny said the announcement is good news for Alberta’s economy.

“If this project proceeds, it could represent one of the largest job-creating investments in Alberta in over a decade,” Kenney said in a news release. “By choosing Alberta to host the world’s first net-zero carbon emissions ethylene plant, Dow is highlighting our growing global leadership in emissions-reducing technology like carbon capture utilization and storage, and Alberta’s open for business policies.”

Dow has created a target to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, eliminate plastic waste in the environment, and increase its positive impacts on customers, business, and society.

Dow is a company that creates products for several sectors including agriculture, feed, and animal care.
