Tick season continues in Saskatchewan
This fall season the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health is reminding residents to remain vigilant for ticks on themselves and pets.
Blacklegged ticks are rare in Saskatchewan, but they do remain active in the fall. They can normally be found in tall grass, brush and wooded areas. Any tick that is found in the province in the fall is likely a black-legged tick and can carry Lyme disease.
“While we certainly want everyone to get outside and enjoy the beautiful fall weather, we also want you to be smart about it,” Dr. Julie Kryzanowski, Saskatchewan Deputy Chief Medical Health Officer said in a news release. “Simple precautions such as checking for ticks on yourself, as well as on children and pets, after spending time in long grass or brush will reduce your risk of a tick bite.”
