SHA Discontinues Asymptomatic PCR COVID-19 Testing

Oct 5, 2021 | 9:40 AM

REMINDER: SHA discontinues asymptomatic PCR ( polymerase chain reaction) COVID tests; asymptomatic residents requiring negative tests must access private labs.

The SHA will no longer provide lab PCR testing for individuals who are not experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms (asymptomatic).

Lab PCR tests will be given to priority individuals who:

  • Are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms
  • Have been identified as a close contact
  • Have had a positive self-test (rapid antigen test)
  • Are identified as part of an outbreak situation, as ordered by the Medical Health Officer
  • Require a transfer or admission to acute and congregate settings
  • Require surveillance testing of immunocompromised patients (including chemotherapy, hemodialysis)

Anyone using the SHA Testing Sites to acquire proof of a negative COVID-19 test will be asked to access private fee for service COVID testing companies within Saskatchewan. The cost for all proof of negative test results for asymptomatic testing will be the responsibility of the individual.

A current list of locations and labs offering testing services is on saskatchewan.ca/COVID19-testing under Where to Get Tested.
