Ten COVID deaths reported Tuesday, new record for Saskatchewan

The provincial government is reporting Tuesday that 10 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died with another 449 new cases of COVID-19 also confirmed.

Since the pandemic began, 682 people have died from the virus.

Of the new cases, 83 per cent are individuals who have not been vaccinated and 66 per cent are among people under the age of 40.

About 103 new cases are among children ages 0-11 who are not yet eligible for the vaccine.

The new cases bring the provincial total to 66,343 reported cases; 4,734 cases are currently considered active.

The number of new cases in the northern zones totals 165; Far North West (20), Far North Central (two), Far North East (23), North West (72), North Central (38), and North East (10).

Nearly one-third (31 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39.

One in six (16.8 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and older) were fully vaccinated.

As of Sept. 28, a total of 311 individuals are hospitalized; including 246 inpatient hospitalizations, and 65 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 311 patients eligible for vaccination, 240 (77.2 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

There were 18 new cases to report on Sept. 27 in NITHA communities; 16 (88 per cent) were unvaccinated, one (six per cent) are partially vaccinated and one (six per cent) were fully vaccinated.

There are 213 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are found in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 10; Far North West, 54; Far North East, 112; North Central, 28; and North East, nine. A total of 5,689 cases (96 per cent) have recovered, and 15 people are being hospitalized.
