Starting tomorrow the Prince Albert Public Library will be hosting many fall programs, starting with a movie that begins at 2:30 p.m.

One exhibit that will be coming to the library from out of the city is a travelling exhibit from the ‘Sixties Scoop Indigenous Society of Alberta’ that will tell the history of the Sixties Scoop and its survivors.

“We are featuring an exhibit that showcases the history of the Sixties Scoop and also shares the experiences of 12 of the survivors,” Sharon Nelson, program services coordinator with the library told paNOW. “People can walk around and read about the history and listen to survivor stories on Ipads.”

The exhibit, ‘Bi-Giwen: Coming Home – Truth-Telling from the Sixties Scoop’ will be on display at the public library, (125 12th Street East) on Monday, October 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

She added there will be a few welcoming remarks from dignitaries, and then the introduction of the exhibit can go ahead.

“We feel like this exhibit is an important opportunity for the community of Prince Albert and area to learn about the tragic history of the Sixties Scoop and the experiences of survivors,” Nelson said. “Hopefully, in the spirit of reconciliation, it will bring about better understanding.”

She added a variety of informative books and materials on the Sixties Scoop can be found at the library for additional learning. They can be accessed provincially on the library catalog.

Along with the exhibit, the library will also be showcasing a film, called Birth of a Family from the National Film Board. The first showing will be at 2 p.m. and will also play at 7 p.m.

“It’s about siblings who were involved in the Sixties Scoop,” Nelson said. “They were adopted into different families, and it is a documentary about them all meeting for the first time.”

Over the next week, the library will also be featuring other fall programs, including movie nights, supplying craft-in-a-bag’s, and author readings.

On Saturday, Sept. 25 the library will be showcasing the movie Playing with Fire at 2:30 p.m. It is a ‘G’ rated movie.

On Monday, Sept. 27 get ready for fall and pick up a unique tween and teen craft-in-a-bag and take it home to make. Residents are limited to one craft per person. Supplies are limited, they are first-come, first-serve.

“We can keep everyone safe and happy that way,” Nelson said.

On Tuesday night, the library will be hosting an author reading from Lynda Monahan. The event will begin at 7 p.m.

Wrapping up on Wednesday, the library will be supplying crafts all day. Adult craft-in-a-bag – paper cup and twine vase. The crafts will be first come, first serve and supplies will be limited. Finally, they will be showing a movie on Wednesday night. They will be playing Bombshell a rated ‘R’ movie, beginning at 6:45 p.m.
