P.A. hospital staff make uplifting video during COVID pandemic

Sep 24, 2021 | 4:00 PM

Healthcare workers at Prince Albert’s Victoria Hospital are trying to keep morale high in a unique way.

They created a video last month, releasing it on Friday, which showed staff dancing around as they try to bring some positivity back as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread throughout the province.

As of September 24, 276 individuals across Saskatchewan were being treated for the virus in hospital. Sixty-one of these people are in the ICU.

As for the north-central region where P.A. resides, 30 individuals are in the hospital with seven needing an ICU bed.

The Government of Saskatchewan has also needed to increase ICU bed capacity to 175 as very few were available for those who needed them for other reasons besides COVID-19.

Due to this increased pressure on the healthcare system, staff at Victoria Hospital wanted to do something which would put a smile on all their faces.

“We’re supporting each other and want to be there for one another,” said Sherry Buckler, CEO of the Victoria Hospital Foundation.

The video starts with a ‘Star Wars’ style opening where it recognizes the pressure the hospital and its staff are currently facing.

Soon after, the song Stronger by Kelly Clarkson can be heard as nurses, doctors, and even some patients start dancing.

Instead of making a video they could just share among the hospital, they decided to share it with the public.

Buckler said they wanted residents to know an important message.

“We’re going to get through this, we’re going to get through this together.”
