Implementation of Truth and Reconciliation and the cost of moving the gazebo: Next weeks council meeting discussions

There will be quite a few interesting topics that will be discussed at next week’s city council meeting on Monday.

Prince Albert’s mayor, Greg Dionne will ask administration to bring back a report regarding the cost of relocating the historic gazebo, located on River Street West, to Little Red River Park.

The report will provide a cost analysis of the relocation, suggestions of placement at Little Red River Park, cost to lay the foundation, as well as additional preservations and will provide insight from the Historical Society regarding the move.

Councillor Tony Head will also make a motion, calling on the city to do more to implement Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action.

He will ask the city does more to implement Call to Action number 47, Call to Action number 75, and Call to Action number 77.

A member of the public will also make a request to council to allow them to paint crosswalks orange on Sept. 30, ‘Orange Shirt Day’ as a part of an awareness campaign.

There will also be an update from administration about the road construction on 15th Street East.

Administration will provide options that showcase a break in a recently installed median, outside businesses on the south side of the road.

Many business owners who are impacted by the median, also sent in letters of complaints to council. There will be a verbal presentation from Chad and Brandy Mogg who own Dr. Java’s Coffee House and Tom McKay who owns the Great Canadian Oil Change.

The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. Due to recent provincial health restrictions, it will not be open to the public.
