Province reports 372 new cases of COVID-19 and five deaths, current active case total sits at 4,700

Another 372 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Saskatchewan today, including 299 cases in unvaccinated residents.

Of the new cases today, 152 were located in the northern zones of the province; Far North West (nine), Far North Central (three), Far North East (41), North West (42), North Central (46) and North East (11).

There are five new deaths reported today bringing the provincial total to 646 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died and a provincial case fatality rate of 1.0 per cent.

There are currently 4,700 cases considered active and a total of 57,643 cases that are considered recovered.

Over one-fourth (29.8 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 20-39.

Approximately one in five (19.5 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and older) were fully vaccinated.

In a recent review of more than 1,600 cases, 98 per cent of school-aged COVID cases lived in unimmunized or partly immunized households.

  • The review included 1,643 confirmed cases of all ages between August 20 and Sept. 7.
  • 334 school aged children (six to 19 years) were identified. The majority of this group (189 cases or 56.5 per cent) were aged six to 12 years.
  • Through the case identification, it was determined two of the households were fully immunized with 78 households unimmunized or partly immunized.

As of Sept. 21, four children under 11 are in hospital; none are in ICU.

COVID-19 Summary for Sept. 21:

From Sept. 15–21, 20,164 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of vaccines administered in the province to 1,523,549.

As of Sept. 21, 79 per cent of those 12+ have received their first dose and 71 per cent of those 12+ are fully vaccinated.

There were 3,320 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan from Sept. 15–21, bringing the provincial total to 62,989 cases. Recoveries for that same time period totalled 2,526 recorded.

Nineteen new deaths were reported Sept. 15–21.

NITHA Data

There are 26 new cases to report in NITHA communities on Sept. 20; 23 (88 per cent) were unvaccinated, 0 per cent are partially vaccinated and three (12 per cent) were fully vaccinated.

On Sept. 20, NITHA reported 351 active cases of COVID-19 in their communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), seven; Far North West, 69; Far North East, 170; North Central, 56; and North East, 49. There are 5,308 cases (93 per cent) recovered, and 12 people are hospitalized.

There are also 11 active cases of COVID-19 Variants of Concern (VOCs) in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central; 0, Far North West, four; and Far North East, five; North Central, one; and North East, one.

Athabasca Health Authority (AHA)

Three recoveries were reported in Fond Du Lac on Sept. 19 with no new case in AHA region. AHA reported on their Facebook page that total active cases in AHA region is four as of that time with one in Stony Rapids and no active case in Black Lake, Uranium City and Camsell Portage.

Black Lake to take more caution as we enter the week of Sept. 20 due to possible increased activity related to funeral. The post also encouraged residents to “continue to stay safe and get vaccinated.”
