CFA launches Hay West website

Sep 17, 2021 | 12:36 PM

MELFORT, Sask. — Farmers looking for hay can now access a website for the Hay West 2021 initiative.

A large portion of the prairies have been suffering through a drought that sharply reduced feed supplies.

The Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA) launched the initiative after successful campaigns in previous years.

Western Canada farmers that are either looking for hay and or have hay to sell can access the web portal.

Producers can go to HayWest2021.net where individuals and businesses can enter the information about their particular situation and then wait to be contacted.

CFA is running the program on a break-even basis. The hay is being bought and sold at cost at $0.10/lb. Freight is being covered by funding through Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.

Every effort will be made to connect farmers and ranchers with available supplies, but CFA said applying for hay does not guarantee that there will be enough to go around.
