Smile Cookie campaign for Rose Garden Hospice

Go ahead– have the cookie!

If you needed an excuse to indulge in one of Tim Horton’s famous ‘Smile Cookies’, here is your chance.

For the second year in a row, proceeds from the week-long fundraising campaign will go to the Rose Garden Hospice Association in Prince Albert.

“We did $50,000 last year,” said Tim Horton’s franchisee Cheryl Sander. “That’s a lot of cookies but we hope to surpass that this year for a cause that hits home for me.”

Sander’s mother had cancer and after spending time in a hospital setting, she knows how important it is to have a comfortable, home-like environment a hospice can provide for those nearing end of life. Fortunately, Sander’s mother’s cancer is in remission. She and her father, Ed Zaparaniuk, who own all four Tim Horton’s locations in Prince Albert, are challenging other businesses to take part.

“It would be great if we could get businesses to purchase bulk orders that they can order ahead for their staff. Even if it’s 25 to 30 cookies for your staff, that could be a huge incentive for other people and businesses to compete against each other,” Sander said.

The $1 treats will be sold at all Tim Horton’s locations in Prince Albert Sept. 13 to 19.

“We’re so thankful again that Tim Horton’s has chosen us to get the proceeds from Smile Cookies. Last year, we had a great response from the community, so we hope it is again this year. Just get out there and buy your cookies,” said Marina Mitchell with the Rose Garden Hospice Association.

Ground was recently broken at the site of the future facility. Mitchell said construction was finally imminent after 14 years of planning; however, the fundraising continues. The association still has $1.1 million of their $4 million goal left to raise so she encouraged the public to buy a cookie…or two.
