Sprucebuds Cannabis opens in Emma Lake

Emma Lake residents will not have to travel far to buy cannabis as Sprucebuds Cannabis is now open for business in the community.

They will be open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Manager of the store Meagan Palidwar told paNOW they’re doing a soft opening for now and are planning to have the grand opening in the spring.

“We’re hoping to be opened all year round so we’re just kind of starting this up and we’re going to see how this goes from here,” she said adding the soft opening is to see what interest they will receive from the community.

They are the first and only cannabis shop in Emma Lake and she said so far, they’ve had a good response from residents.

“We’re in a great location next to Ambrose Grocery so we’ve just kind of relied on the traffic from that from this last long weekend but yeah, it went well. We had a lot of people checking us out and stopping in to say hello,” Palidwar explained.

The staff at the store have a lot of product knowledge and anyone, if they’re of age, are welcome to visit.

In April of this year, the District of Lakeland council voted five to one in favour of the proposed cannabis shop. This solidified Sprucebuds Cannabis to take over the shop previously known as Bear Country Fudge.

Administrator at the District of Lakeland Tammy Knuttila said it’s nice to see a new venture open in Emma Lake. She explained they have very limited commercially owned properties that would qualify, so this location has been the only business who has shown interest in opening a cannabis shop in Emma Lake.

“When you think of the district, there’s the District of Lakeland, there’s the RM of Paddockwood, there’s the Village of Christopher Lake and I know that the Village of Christopher Lake has received I believe approved an application in the village,” she said. “And I’m pretty sure the RM of Paddockwood received an application for a property in a hamlet of Northside.”

The owner of Sprucebuds Cannabis confirmed to paNOW they will also be opening a second location in Candle Lake. They will be breaking ground sometime this month with hopes to open in the winter.
