Rock and Iron bar in P.A. closed due to COVID

Sep 7, 2021 | 11:37 AM

The Rock and Iron bar and restaurant at Prince Albert’s Golf and Curling Club has decided to close temporarily due to COVID.

Meanwhile, the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has issued a notice of increased COVID risk in the community.

Anyone who was at the location at certain times over five days between Aug. 27 and Sept. 2, will need to self-isolate for 14 days, or, if they have been fully vaccinated, self-monitor.

In a Facebook post Monday night, the board of directors said they’ve set Sept. 22 as a tentative reopening date.

The board said the staff available to work would be too limited to run the operation successfully.

“We deeply appreciate our staff and our members for sticking with us through this pandemic, and we look forward to seeing you all when we reopen,” the post said.

Chair of the board of directors with the PAGCC, Kelly Timmerman, told paNOW they were dealing with the ‘extreme situation’ the best way they can.

“If we can get this place closed down for a couple of weeks, we can get it cleaned up, and we can be back in business hopefully on Sept.22,” he explained.

Timmerman said the closure would be an economic jolt but they were doing their best to keep all employees paid for as long as possible “to ensure they have the funds to look after their families and stay safe.”

He called on everyone in the community to get the jab.

“I can’t say it often enough or loud enough: get your vaccination,” he said.

Timmerman added the idea of requiring proof of vaccination is under consideration but any such moves could not be in place for the Sept.22 re-opening.

“We’re looking at it as a business to see what would be best for our staff and their families.”

Users of the golf course will still have access to some food and beverages daily with the club operating a cart for certain hours.

On Tuesday, the SHA issued a notice of increased COVID risk after a person or persons attended the bar while infectious over five days covering late August and early September.

SHA listed the dates and times for the risk of exposure:

  • Aug. 27, 2021 (4 p.m. – 10 p.m.)
  • Aug. 28, 2021 (11 a.m. – 4 p.m.)
  • Aug. 29, 2021 (11 a.m. – 7 p.m.)
  • Sept. 1, 2021 (11 a.m. – 5 p.m.)
  • Sept. 2, 2021 (10 a.m. – 12 p.m.)

As per Disease Control Regulations, all individuals in attendance during this date and time should:

  • Immediately self-isolate and remain on isolation 14 days after last exposure.
  • Seek testing for COVID-19 immediately, and again 10 days after exposure.

Exception: If you have received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine and the second dose was received 14 days before exposure, you do not need to self-isolate but:

  • Self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 for 14 days after last exposure.
  • If symptoms develop, start self-isolating immediately and seek testing.
  • If you need to check your vaccination status, please access MySaskHealthRecord.
