Another 305 new cases reported in province, 4,596 total new cases in August

The province is confirming another 305 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed today, which includes 140 new cases in Northern Saskatchewan.

These new cases are located in the Far North West (nine), Far North Central (two), Far North East (37), North West (35), North Central (39), and North East (18).

The brings the total to 56,838 reported cases; 3,184 cases are considered active and 53,041 cases are considered recovered.

Almost two-fifths (38.4 per cent) of new cases are in the 19 and under age category.

About one in eight (13.1 per cent) new cases was fully vaccinated.

COVID-19 Summary for August

Of the 4,596 cases reported in August, 3,840 (83.5 per cent) were unvaccinated or tested positive within three weeks of receiving their first vaccination. Four hundred and twenty-four cases (9.2 per cent) were partially vaccinated with one dose, while 756 cases (16.4 per cent) were fully vaccinated. Of the 756 cases with a second dose, 17.6 per cent (133) had comorbid conditions.

Among the cases reported in August, 22 individuals passed away; 12 were unvaccinated.

Of the 4,596 cases reported in August 2021, 17.3 per cent (793) were aged 11 years or younger. Of the 189 individuals who were hospitalized, 5.3 per cent (10) were aged 19 years or younger and 3.2 per cent (six) were under 12 years with one under 12 years admitted to ICU.

COVID-19 Summary for September 7, 2021:

From September 1 – 7, 14,039 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of vaccines administered in the province to 1,490,413.

As of September 7, 77 per cent of those 12+ have received their first dose and 69 per cent of those 12+ are fully vaccinated.

There were 2,452 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan from September 1 – 7, bringing the provincial total to 56,838 cases. One thousand, four hundred and eighty-one recoveries were recorded during the same period.

NITHA Data

As of Sept. 6, there are 55 new cases to report today in NITHA communities; 45 (82 per cent) unvaccinated, four (7 per cent) partially vaccinated and six (11 per cent) fully vaccinated.

There are 358 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 20; Far North West, 55; Far North East, 225; North Central, 33; and North East, 25.

There are 178 active cases of COVID-19 Variants of Concern (VOCs) in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central; two, Far North West, 21; and Far North East, 125; North Central, 24; and North East, six.

There has been 4,660 cases (92 per cent) that have recovered, and five people are being hospitalized.

Athabasca Health Authority

Athabasca Health Authority saw a spike of cases over the weekend with 21 cases now active in the region as of Sept. 6.

Twelve cases are active in Fond Du Lac, seven in Black Lake and two in Stony Rapids.

Executive director of Primary Health Care, Taiwo Olubanwo, said in a recent COVID update they are expecting a spike in cases in Black Lake in the coming weeks.

Olubanwo continues in encourage residents to get vaccinated.

“Within the past week alone, we hosted three vaccine clinics in Fond-Du-Lac and a clinic in Black Lake. Hosting more clinics this week. As earlier anticipated, the rate of CoVID-19 vaccine uptakes seems promising recently,” stated Olubanwo in a media release.
