Latest COVID update Sept. 4: 355 new cases, no new deaths

Saskatchewan reported 355 new COVID-19 cases Saturday, with the province’s seven-day average at 300.

The cases reported Saturday were in the Saskatoon (110), northwest (26), north-central (73), Regina (21), central-west (two), northeast (17), far northwest (23), far northeast (30), far north-central (one) southeast (14), central-east (12), southwest (five) and south-central (three) zones. The hometowns of 18 cases are pending.

As well, 27 cases previously without a hometown were added to the provincial total, which now stands at 55,750.

The number of active COVID cases in Saskatchewan reached 2,894, the most since there were 3,272 active cases on Jan. 25.

The seven-day average of new COVID-19 case numbers is now 300, or 24.9 new cases per 100,000 population.

The province reported no new deaths, keeping the total to date at 610.

There are 138 people in hospital with 116 people receiving inpatient care and 22 people in the ICU. Of the 138 patients, 99 people, roughly 72 per cent, were not fully vaccinated.

More than one-third, or 35 per cent of new cases are 20 to 39 years old.

About one in seven, or nearly 14 per cent, of Saturday’s new cases affected those fully vaccinated.

There are now 700,593 people fully vaccinated in Saskatchewan thanks to 1,480 getting their second dose.
