The finalists for the 2021 Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce ABEX Awards have been announced, and the list includes two businesses from Prince Albert.

Limitless Gear Clothing has been nominated in the New Venture Award category, as well as Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award category. Owner Cody Demerais told paNOW he is completely “over the moon” grateful to be recognized for the work he has done in the city, as well as across as the province.

“This isn’t just the win of an individual person, it’s a win for the entire community that’s supported us as a whole,” he said.

Limitless Gear Clothing opened its doors in November 2019 and since then has seen significant expansion. Route 39 in Weyburn also come on board and offered to help sell the unique brand of clothing.

“I’m continuing to do what I love and the moment I don’t love what I do is the moment I don’t pursue this anymore,’ Demerais said.

In the Growth and Expansion Award category sponsored by PFM Capital Inc., Prince Albert’s North Country Massage & Medi Spa is one of three finalists. Owner/Operator Bernadette Lavoie was honoured to be named.

“Definitely over the past year my staff and myself have worked really hard to try and keep things rolling along, considering COVID and being closed for three months,” she said.

The business has been open since 2005 but moved to their current location on Seventh St. E. in 2017. During COVID, the business took steps to further diversify by focusing on the growth of its social media platform, as well as the creation of an online store.

“And it really comes down to our clientele. Like when we re-opened after COVID, we had the most successful months we’ve had in the history of ever being open,” Lavoie said.

The ABEX awards, which started in 1984, are the largest and longest-running business awards program in the province.

“The business community in this province is proving their resilience in what are still challenging times and we are thrilled to celebrate the success of these amazing people and companies. We need to support all and celebrate those who have found success in their respective sectors,” Steve McLellan, CEO of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce, said in a press release.

The ABEX Awards, presented by Conexus Credit Union, will be celebrating Saskatchewan business excellence with a virtual awards gala on Oct. 22.
