369 new COVID-19 cases reported; case increase in Stanley Mission

The province of Saskatchewan reported 369 new COVID-19 cases for Saturday’s report, an increase of 111 from Friday’s update.

Saturday’s new case update is the largest the province has reported since Jan. 11 when 412 cases were reported.

Cases reported in the northern zones are as follows: nine cases in the Far North West, two in Far North Central, 41 in Far North East, 35 in North West, 65 in North Central, and 24 in the North East.

Active cases are now approaching the 2,000-mark with 1,987 currently. Hospitalizations have increased to 110, 13 more than Friday. Recoveries are now at 51,033.

One new death was reported.

Increase of cases in Stanley Mission

With the increase of COVID-19 cases in Stanley Mission, restrictions and social distancing guidelines are being reinstated in the area.

There are 65 new cases in Stanley Mission, 26 being the Delta variant, the Lac La Ronge Indian Band said in a Friday release.

COVID-19 restrictions and social distancing in public locations are being put back in place. Community events are not being prohibited but “strongly discouraged” according to the release. The band will also be “reviewing options for re-opening schools.”

There are 264 active cases of COVID-19 in Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 22; Far North West, 73; Far North East, 134; North Central, 34; and North East, 1. 4354 cases (96%) have recovered, and 9 people are hospitalized.

Athabasca Health Authority

Three cases were reported in Fond-du-Lac on Friday, after a long period where the community managed to stay clear of the virus. The Athabasca Health Authority (AHA) said a funeral and a tournament in the past week could have contributed to the increase of cases.

The AHA also said in a release that the outbreak at the AHA Long Term Care Unit was lifted on Friday.
