Half of new cases once again in Northern Saskatchewan; 131 new cases reported across province

The provincial government is reporting another 131 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today, 61 of which are in Saskatchewan’s northern zones.

This brings the total to 51,630 reported cases; 49,978 cases considered recovered and 1,066 cases considered active.

Nearly half of the active cases, 505, are in the northern zones of the province.

The new cases are located in the Far North West (three), Far North Central (five), Far North East (24), North West (nine), North Central (17), North East (three)

Less than one-half (42.7 per cent) of new cases are in the 20 to 39 years age category.

No (0) new death were reported today. The number of Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 who have died remains at 586 and a case fatality rate of 1.1 per cent for today.

The province also reported another 1,990 new vaccines today bringing the provincial total to 1,450,358 and 678,505 fully vaccinated Saskatchewan residents.

NITHA Data

As of Aug. 17 there are 140 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 21; Far North West, 46; Far North East, 63; North Central, nine; and North East, one with 4201 cases (96 per cent) recovered, and three people currently being hospitalized.

There are 82 active cases of COVID-19 Variants of Concern (VOCs) in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central; 10, Far North West, 28; and Far North East, 42; North Central, two; and North East, 0.

Athabasca Health Authority

The Athabasca Health Authority is reporting another case of COVID-19 in their region as of Aug. 17. This brings the total number of cases since 2020 to 436 and with three recoveries also reported there are 24 cases currently active in Stony Rapids and Black Lake.
