Assistant coach McDonald to rejoin Raiders
The hub experience of last season is something most teams in the WHL wouldn’t want to have to go through again, but for the Prince Albert Raiders there was one aspect of the bubble that was worth repeating. The team announced today that assistant coach Ryan McDonald will be rejoining them on a full-time basis.
McDonald joined the team for the hub season in Regina last year as an assistant coach, but that wasn’t his first stint with the Raiders. The Prince Albert native played two and a half seasons for his hometown team, tallying 162 points in 182 games after being acquired from the Regina Pats in the 2006-07 season.
McDonald was also the first head coach in the history of the Warman Wildcats U18 AAA team as he was named coach for last year’s inaugural campaign. As the U18 AAA season was cut short due to the pandemic, he joined the Raiders for the hub.
The Raiders also announced today Doan Smith has joined them in a player development role. Smith, the Prince Albert area manager for Global Sport Academy, will be communication primarily with list players and prospects.
