High school rodeo returns without restrictions; Henry rebounds at nationals

No restrictions, no problem.

The Lakeland Ford High School Rodeo is slated to start at the Red River Roping and Riding Arena (RRRR) on Sept. 4 and 5, and with no restrictions in place the event will run just about as close to normal as in previous years.

“It’s going to be good. It was tough last year,” RRRR director Larry Henry said. “We had to have several stations and watch what we were doing. Not that we’re not watching what we’re doing now but it will make it a lot easier to put the event on.”

Larry is expecting a slight increase from last year’s turnout. There were 110 competitors last year, but Henry hopes to see at least 130 this year.

The rodeo will be run without restrictions. Masks are not required but those who do wish to wear one can, and there will be hand sanitizer available.

Kaci Henry recovers from early stumble to get top 10 nationals finish

In the first day of the Canadian High School Rodeo Finals in Swift Current Aug. 6-8, Kaci Henry’s horse had a bit of a stumble in the pole bending event which cost her over 1.5 seconds of time. That’s a lot of ground to make up in an event where the margin for error is so slim.

Kaci was in 14^th place after the first day, but managed to climb back up the rankings with two good runs to finish eighth overall.

“She had two fantastic runs after the stumble,” Larry said. “Her stumble was really unfortunate because her run was good, but she lost probably a second and a half from the stumble. And she was able to pull his shoulders up and get him going again.”
