Regina-based Farm Credit Canada is offering to provide support to drought-stricken producers.

Senior vice president of operations, Darren Howden, says FCC is willing to be flexible on loans on a case by case basis.

“If it’s a short term issue, what we’re looking at is we can of course defer our customers loan payments, or we’ll be looking to provide short term financing as well if that makes sense,” Howden said.

If it is a bigger issue that needs more work, they may look at restructuring to put producers back into a solid financial footing.

He says they expect the requests to start coming between mid-late August.

B.C.’s agriculture ministry is making changes to its policies on mink farms after two more animals tested positive for the virus that causes COVID-19.

The province is putting a moratorium on new mink farms and capping existing farms at their current numbers.

Each farm must report the total number of mink to the provincial and regional medical officers of health.

Residents of Saskatchewan’s Qu’appelle Valley say the problem of dead carp washing up on the shore of Echo Lake this month is getting worse.

Experts believe it can be attributed to higher than normal temperatures.

Peter Leavitt with the University of Regina says warmer water holds less oxygen for fish to breathe, while at the same time the fish need more oxygen because the water is warmer.

Some say the smell is the worst part, with dead fish, algae and increased temperatures culminating in a significant stink.
