Prince Albert’s Katelyn Lehner to open for Dean Brody

Jul 26, 2021 | 5:00 PM

Canadian country artist Dean Brody will no doubt bring down the house Friday at Regina’s Conexus Arts Centre, and opening up for him will be Prince Albert’s Katelyn Lehner.

The former St. Mary track star has been on quite the run lately so to speak, releasing two singles and being named “Best Emerging Artist” by the Saskatchewan Country Music Association (SCMA). She revealed to paNOW she was approached by one of the event planners, who was familiar with her music and had read some recent media articles.

“I was so excited. It was a very easy yes for me,” she said.

In terms of headliners, it doesn’t get much bigger in Canada than Dean Brody who has released an impressive 27 Top-10 singles. He has also won 17 Canadian Country Music Awards and two JUNOs, and holds the bragging rights for more than 185 million global streams. Only Shania Twain has more Canadian streams than Brody when looking at Canadian country artists’ “lifetime” results. Lehner acknowledged she has always admired Brody and what he has been able to accomplish in the music industry.

“If you would have told me back in October when I was just figuring how to release my first single, and making my own way into the industry that I would be opening for him, I for sure would not have believed you,” Lehner said.

In addition to having her family and friends in the audience, Lehner will be joined on stage Friday by a full band for a 30 minute set.

“I think it’s just so special that this is going to be my first show back since the pandemic and so it’s just going to be so much fun,” she said.

Lehner released her first single “Red” last October, and her second single, “Without You” , has cracked the Canadian country billboard chart at 97.

With the easing of COVID restrictions in Saskatchewan earlier this month, Lehner’s schedule has also been filling up fast and among the shows she has committed to is Chesterfest in September.
