Hosting Aces go the distance at U12 provincials, U12 Astros bring home gold from Delisle

The ball diamonds in Prince Albert held their first provincial softball tournaments in two years, and both of the hosting U12 Aces teams were playing in its final draw.

In the U12 A Girls North Provincials, the U12 A Aces reached the bronze medal game but fell to the Saskatoon Lasers 5-2. Lasers’ Morgan Kowalchuk hit a three-run inside the park home run in the fifth inning to give them a 4-1 lead.

The Aces scored their runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead, and in the top of the sixth inning to get to within three runs. The Aces did have the bases loaded in the sixth inning but couldn’t find a key hit late in the inning.

The Meadow Lake Sox won the A finals, defeating the Spirit from Melfort 8-2 in the gold medal game.

In the ‘Open’ division, the U12 ‘B’ Aces made it to the gold medal finals against the Saskatoon Lasers. Down 7-2 after three innings, they fought back to tie the game at 7.

But the Lasers were able to squeeze in a couple and went on to win the gold medal 9-7, with the Aces as the runners-up.

U12 Astros

Also on Sunday, the Prince Albert U12 Astros won the boys’ Open provincials in Delisle over the Laird Valley Blue Jays. The Astros picked up the gold after a convincing 10-4 victory in the finals to take home the prize.

U14 Astros

In the U14 open boys provincial tournament, the Prince Albert Astros defeated the Shellbrook Rangers 7-3 in the final to cap off a perfect weekend, bringing home the title.
