Kosior hopes to hear his name called during his second draft

This isn’t Landon Kosior’s first rodeo.

The Prince Albert Raiders defenceman is entering his second NHL Entry Draft this year. Kosior was ranked 98th among North American skaters last year but was passed over during the draft. Now in his second year eligible, Kosior is hoping to see his name called.

“I’ve already been through it one time, so I know what to expect. I’m just going into it with an open mindset and hoping everything works out,” Kosior said.

“If I don’t get drafted, it’s not the end of the world. There’s still many other ways to make it,” Kosior added.

After not hearing his name last year, Kosior went into the off-season with something to prove. He wanted to show all the teams what they missed and what he can bring to any organization.

“It definitely pushed me. It was a big motivator for me. You always want to be drafted, so when you’re not, it puts a chip on your shoulder to prove people that they were wrong,” Kosior said.

Known for his quickness, playmaking ability, and sneakily accurate wrist shot, the biggest thing Kosior wanted to improve on was his physicality. Kosior got that opportunity during the 24-game Subway Hub Centre season in his hometown of Regina.

Kosior got more ice time in more situations during his sophomore season as a Raider, and scored four goals in 21 games.

“This year was good. I thought I started to play a lot more physical. I think that’s something that would help me out going into the draft this year. I played a lot more physically and a lot more minutes. I’m happy with that for sure,” Kosior said.

Kosior is ranked 168th among North American skaters for this upcoming NHL Entry Draft. The first round will be completed on Friday, while the rest of the rounds will be done on Saturday.
