Red River Roping and Riding Arena providing free boarding of animals for those affected by wildfires

Jul 17, 2021 | 3:18 PM

UPDATE: The Red River Roping and Riding Arena have explained they are now full and are no longer accepting animals.

The Red River Roping and Riding Arena are lending a helping hand to those affected by the wildfires in Northern Saskatchewan.

During the Cloverdale Fire northeast of Prince Albert, a couple of months ago, the Red River Roping and Riding Arena moved all their cattle and horses to keep them safe. However, President of the Arena Candice Sinitoski said they couldn’t have done it without the help of some community members who brought trailers to transport the animals or offered to take care of them.

She told paNOW because the community was so helpful, she is offering to help anyone who may need a place to keep their animals who have been evacuated for free.

“It’s just our turn to give back,” she said. “Those kinds of things you can’t repay so now we’re trying to repay it by doing this for the northern communities that need to get their equine animals out and anything else we can help just to pay it forward.”

So far, they’ve opened the arena to look after one family’s livestock that came in on Friday. She added there were two others who were going to utilize their offer but are waiting to get out due to a road closure.

Those looking to move their cattle and horses can contact the arena at 306-763-3434 or can get in touch with Sinitoski.

“We feel really good at being able to provide a place for the animals until it’s safe for them to go home,” Sinitoski explained.
