Stabbing at P.A. restaurant results in four-year prison sentence

A man who walked into Prince Albert’s Boston Pizza restaurant and stabbed a stranger multiple times in the face and head has received a four-year prison sentence.

Trent Fox, 20, has pled guilty to the charge of aggravated assault in connection to the incident that happened on the night of Oct. 14, 2020.

According to the statement of facts read in court on July 8, the 21-year-old victim was sitting in the entrance area of the restaurant, waiting for a take-out order. He did not know the man who attacked him or the reason why.

Fox was heard yelling at the victim, calling him a “snitch”.

Upon hearing the commotion, the restaurant manager came over and got between the two men. Fox left on foot, but not before dropping his knife.

The victim in turn was taken to hospital in Prince Albert with what were initially described as “superficial injuries” but the next day a CT scan revealed a significant intracranial hemorrage, and the man was placed into an induced coma, before being transported to hospital in Saskatoon.

While in hospital there, he underwent several surgical procedures.

Trent Fox was arrested soon after the incident, and the next day told police he was in North Battleford on Oct. 13, and had been drinking heavily. He could recall walking towards Prince Albert and getting picked up by someone in a van, but blacked out and could not remember anything else until after he was arrested.

When shown the video recording of the event, Fox admitted it was him attacking [the victim] but had no recollection of the incident and did not know [the victim].

In addition to the charge of attempted murder, Fox, who is from Little Pine First Nation, was also sentenced for charges in North Battleford related to property offences and court breaches. He received sentences ranging from three to six months on each of those charges which will run concurrently to the prison sentence
