The annual three-day walk to raise awareness about missing North Battleford woman Ashley Morin will take place starting Friday.

The event is held on the anniversary when Ashley Morin, 31, of Ahtahkakoop First Nation, disappeared on July 10, 2018 in North Battleford.

Participants will walk from the Saskatoon Police Service station in Saskatoon to North Battleford along the side of the highway.

Krista Fox, one of the organizers and a spokesperson for Ashley Morin’s family, says she hopes the walk helps remind people that Morin is still missing. Fox also encourages anyone who might know something of Morin’s whereabouts to contact the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes unit.

“Hopefully somebody has been holding on to something, and they are ready to talk to us or reach out to Major Crimes,” she said. “Hopefully somebody reaches out … so we can bring our girl home.”

The walk will wrap up with a meal outside the Friendship Centre in North Battleford on Sunday.

Ashley Morin’s mother Diane Morin, her father Lyndon Bird, and family will also take part in the walk.

Fox says the family of missing Saskatoon woman Megan Gallagher will also join the family of Ashley Morin in the event this year. Gallagher, 30, has been missing since Sept. 19, 2020.

A number of supporters will also participate in the walk.

“It’s a gathering, an awareness walk, whatever we need it to be,” Fox said.

“We’re going to take each day, day by day,” Fox said. “Our gatherings are still numbered [for COVID-19 capacity limits]. So we’ll be conscious of that. I think it is going to be pretty well the same, doing what we can to make sure everybody is kept safe.”
