Attempted murder charge laid following incident at Sturgeon Lake First Nation

A man from Little Red River First Nation is facing attempted murder and various other charges in connection to an incident last Thursday night at Sturgeon Lake First Nation.

At approximately 11:30 p.m., Prince Albert RCMP received a complaint that a male had been shot outside of a residence.

The investigation revealed that an altercation occurred between two males, which resulted in one of them sustaining a firearm wound. The injured man was transported to hospital with serious injuries. The other male left the scene.

The following day, Prince Albert RCMP attended a residence on Little Red River First Nation and arrested a man in relation to the incident.

Phillip Okemow, 25, faces over half a dozen charges including attempted murder, careless use of firearm, pointing a firearm, and carrying a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He has been scheduled to appear in court Wednesday in Prince Albert.

Prince Albert RCMP, with the assistance of Prince Albert and Saskatoon General Investigation Sections and the Prince Albert Forensic Identification Section, continues to investigate.
