The Rotary Club of Prince Albert accepted a grant from the Prince Albert and Area Community Foundation (PAACF) which will go towards the construction of the future Adventure Park at Little Red River Park.

The $33,287 grant was made by the PAACF on June 17th, with the official acceptance at an event on Wednesday.

Keith Fonstad, president of the Rotary Club in P.A., was thankful for the contribution and is excited to begin construction.

“We really appreciate the support the foundation has given, to be able to put the money towards the project is very important,” Fonstad told paNOW. “The foundation grant will be used to expand and renovate picnic sites to increase the capacity of the areas. Two to four picnic sites will be added and refurbished on the west side of the river, and possibly on the east side as well.”

Recently, the Rotary Club did some visual engineering with the city at the site.

“It was a pretty cool experience to see how big of a footprint that playground will have in that space, it fills it up pretty good. It will be really exciting for kids and the families of Prince Albert,” Fonstad said.

Bill Powalinsky, board president of the PAACF said this project fits right in line with their ideals.

“One of the things we’re really excited about at the PAACF is supporting projects like the Adventure Park. It will be something that will be a benefit to the whole community and the area,” Powalinsky said. “One of our focuses is on advancing physical and mental well-being of individuals and families, this certainly fits very well with that.

“It really respects environmental issues the way they have designed it, and the location they are constructing it on. It’s a great matchup with what our mandate is all about.”

Features of the park will include a climbing center, parkour style circuit area, fitness area, and elevated slides using the natural elevation available at the park.

There will also be swings and a stand-up sand table, upgraded picnic sites, new picnic shelters and expanded walking trails so there is something for everyone from toddlers to seniors.

Earlier this month the Rotary Club made their first bits of headway towards the construction of the Adventure Park after making their first payment to the city, and receiving a donation from Lake Country Co-op.
