MELFORT, Sask. – A third case of a rare swine flu variant has been identified in southern Manitoba.

The variant Influenza H3N2 was detected earlier this month.

The person experienced mild symptoms and was initially tested for COVID-19. The test came back negative, but further testing discovered the swine flu variant.

The province said the case appears to be isolated and there is no increased risk to people or the food supply chain.

Two other cases of different swine flu variants were identified in people in southern Manitoba in April.

Saskatchewan rural municipalities are being encouraged to take advantage of the largest channel clearing grant ever offered.

The $1.5 million designated by the province is part of the two-year $2 million dollar commitment made in March.

The channel clearing program aids RM’s, as well as Conservation and Development and Watershed Associations to remove debris, silt, and beaver dams from natural watercourses to lessen the possibility of blockages that can flood roadways and farmland.

The Saskatchewan Water Security Agency said the program has been streamlined this year and removed barriers to simplify the application process.

The application deadline is January 31, 2022.

CNH Industrial will purchase Raven Industries for US$2.1 billion moving it into the autonomous and precision agriculture technology business.

CNH Industrial CEO Scott Wine said the technology is a critical component for agricultural customers wanting to reach the next level of productivity and to unlock the true potential of their operations.

“Raven has been a pioneer in precision agriculture for decades, and their deep product experience, customer-driven software expertise, and engineering acumen offer a significant boost to our capabilities,” Wine said in a news release. “This acquisition emphasizes our commitment to enhance our precision farming portfolio and aligns with our digital transformation strategy.

Raven’s autonomous agriculture recently purchased Saskatchewan-based DOT Technology and its autonomous platform in 2020. It also bought the AutoCart aftermarket driverless grain cart system from Smart Ag in 2019.
