Thanks to her consistency throughout the rodeo season, Carlton’s Kaci Henry qualified for the High School Rodeo Nationals in July in Lincoln, Nebraska, and the Canadian High School Rodeo Finals in Swift Current Aug. 6-8.

Henry had the best season average in the pole bending event—basically going through a slalom course on a horse. Henry was presented with the accomplishment at the Saskatchewan High School Rodeo Provincials over the weekend in Maple Creek.

Her father Larry Henry said that was largely due to the fact Kaci was almost always able to avoid any penalties. Kaci only knocked down one pole all season, allowing her to put up good finishes in every event.

“It’s a really big reward for a lot of work and time put in,” Larry said. “She’s competing against very, very good girls. There may be 48 competitors in the event itself that she won, but probably on any given day, most of those girls could have won the competition. It’s really, really close, so you have to be fast and you have to run clean runs— not knocking down any poles.”
