Man charged with second-degree murder in Ahtahkakoop

A 24-year-old was arrested and charged with second-degree murder after an early morning incident on the Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation.

The initial investigation by Ahtahakakoop RCMP officers led to Tyrell Knife going into custody on Tuesday.

Police were originally called at 3:45 a.m. that morning to an assault and found 51-year-old Jimmy Williams of Ahtahkakoop deceased on scene. Both Knife and Williams knew each other, according to police. Williams’ family has been notified.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Major Crime Unit South, Ahtahkakoop RCMP, Prince Albert Provincial General Investigation Section, Prince Albert Forensic Identification Section, Saskatoon Police Dog Service and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service have been involved in this ongoing investigation.
