WHL regular season to start Oct. 1 with full fan capacity

Jun 15, 2021 | 5:39 PM

In anticipation of health restrictions being lifted in every jurisdiction, the Western Hockey League announced an Oct. 1, 2021 start date for the 2021-22 WHL Regular Season on Tuesday following their annual general meeting.

The regular season is planned to be a full 68-game schedule with full fan capacity in each of the arenas—including the Art Hauser Centre.

The playoffs will also have a different look. The league will revert back to the old Conference Playoff format that was last used in 2014.

Each division winner being ranked first and second in their conference, with the following six teams in each conference qualifying for the playoffs. That will replace the Divisional Playoff format, which was used since the 2015 season.
