Jun 15, 2021 | 9:54 AM

MELFORT, Sask. – Canada’s Farm Show (CFS) will be held online again this year.

The first day will focus on innovation and the state of the agriculture industry, while international business will be the focal point of day two with panel discussions on global export and mental health.

Keynote speakers include former Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall, former Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Lord Conrad Black, and Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister David Marit.

The event will feature on-demand programming which allows registered participants to view videos of each part of the conference at their own convenience.

Participants can register online for free for the event which runs Wednesday and Thursday.

CFS is usually held at Regina’s Evraz Place in mid-June.

A new project to develop a plant-based fish filet will be the first of its kind in Canada.

New School Foods and Liven Proteins will focus on developing a whole muscle fish that mimics the same texture, taste, and cooking experience of fish.

New School Foods will expand its research and development efforts by partnering with additional universities and private laboratories. This will also accelerate Liven’s development of protein ingredients through its precision fermentation platform.

The partners will test Liven’s fermentation-based, animal-free proteins in combination Canadian-sourced pea, canola, and fava protein.

A total of $1.9 million has been committed to the project, with Protein Industries Canada providing half of the funds and New School Foods and Liven together investing the remaining half.

Richardson Pioneer has started construction of a high throughput grain elevator at Carmichael, Sask. roughly 65 kilometers west of Swift Current.

The new elevator will have 46,000 metric tonnes of storage capacity with a loop track rail design capable of loading 175 cube rail cars.

The facility will feature high-speed receiving and load out, with a high-capacity grain cleaning system.

Once the new elevator has been completed Richardson will build a fertilizer blender as well as a 10,000 square foot warehouse.

Construction is expected to be completed by fall 2022 and be fully operational by late 2023.
