Walk to raise awareness in P.A. in honour of Adam Pelletier

The mother of Adam Pelletier is hoping to raise awareness eight months after her son was shot and killed on Oct. 10, 2020.

The public is welcome to join on a walk along the Rotary Trail at 10 a.m. on Sunday, which would have been Adam’s 19th birthday. They will be meeting at Wholesale Club before beginning the trek around the entire trail.

April Roberts, the mother of Pelletier, said the event is for people and youth against violence, gangs, and drugs. Roberts said she has youth who phone her when they’re in trouble. She mentioned one who phones her when experiencing mental health issues.

“He phones me whenever he’s having an attack and I’ll go and pick him up wherever. Or I have ones who phone me, and they have nowhere to go so I’ll go pick them up and help them through the night,” she said. “I see too many youths out there getting into trouble and kind of going the same way my son did.”

She is hoping to introduce the city to this problem explaining the youth need some type of centre.

“They used to have the Margo Fournier, but I don’t know why they shut that down. It was a great program,” Roberts said. “I’m hoping to open their eyes and see that these youth need a place to go, they need people to talk to, they need things to do to keep them busy. More than anything just someone to be there for them.”
